Road Work Begins in Simonton

June 3rd, 2009

Simonton Mayor, Lou Boudreaux wants to let the community know the status of road work that began Wednesday, June 3rd.

According to Mayor Boudreau, he met with the Fort Bend County Roads & Bridges crew as they began preparing for the long awaited road work.  They will rebuild nine roads in Valley Lodge.  The roads to be rebuilt are: Custer, Cavalry, Indian, Tejas, Canyon, Stirrup, Maverick, Hondo, Stockade and a portion of Pony to the south.  They will also be doing other work in the area outside of Valley Lodge, but within and outside city limits.  Stansbury Road both within and outside the city limits will be rebuilt.  Ashe road, within the city limits will be re-topped.  Some other county roads in the area that will be worked are Guyler and Mullins.

The county recently began mixing an oil emulsion in with the road base material that acts as a stabilizer. This new material has two benefits; road base construction time is shortened considerably, and recent tests indicate that roads hold up much better to vehicle traffic and changing climate conditions.

Weather permitting, they should be out of the area in about two weeks.
